Hey all,
How are you doing? I trust you've had a good week.
Yesterday I delivered a workshop on delegation, and a recurring theme emerged - fear.
Senior leaders shared their concerns about handing over responsibilities - or more to the point, not handing over responsibilities. Constantly, plagued with worries that things might go wrong. Their fear of failure loomed large and it meant that they were utterly stuck in the weeds.
But when we dug deeper, I asked: If failure happens, what does it actually mean?
Would it be ideal? No.
Would it be challenging? Possibly.
Would it be resolvable? Almost certainly.
Time and time again, businesses overcome setbacks, yet fear of 'what might happen if the worst happens' seems to hold us back.
One leader said, “We could lose a client.” My response?
1. Has that ever actually happened?
2. And if it did, would you find a way forward?
I love this acronym for FEAR: False Evidence Appearing Real - a narrative our brain creates to keep us safe.
But at what cost? Bottlenecks? Disempowered teams? Missed opportunities?
So, I’ll leave you with this: Are your fears real, or is your scared brain just louder than reality?
Have a wonderful week, friends.
