Hey there,
I hope you've had a great week!
This week, I’ve been running a couple of workshops on communication and the same thing keeps showing up - it’s not the big strategy conversations that trip us up.
It’s the small, everyday moments. The cues we miss or the assumptions that we carry.
Or those bloomin' awkward silences we don’t know how to fill.
Because, let's be honest, most of us were never taught how to really communicate - I certainly know that my folks were never modelling it!
And, when it comes to communication in the office, let alone as leaders? Well, that's a whole new ball park.
So I want to share one question I think every manager should be asking right now:
“What do you need from me to do your best work?”
That’s it.
Very simple but also simply powerful.
So, why does it work?
Because when you ask this question, you’re doing three things:
1. You’re showing your team they matter.
2. You’re opening up a two-way street (not a top-down directive).
3. You’re strengthening the relationship and the results.
You see, whilst outcomes are important, I always stress with the groups that I work with that the experience of the conversation is just as important. Your people will always remember how it felt to be in the room with you.
If you want your managers to be better at communication then drop us a line. We run practical, human, high-impact sessions on high-performance communication which will equip your managers with the tools (and confidence) to handle the real conversations that drive performance.
Have a really lovely week!
With love,
