Delegation Isn’t a Skill Problem, It’s a Brain Problem

Hey there!

How's life treating you?

This week, I’ve been pouring my energy into writing our new workshop on delegation. This is a challenge we’re hearing so much about from teams right now.

We so often hear:

"It’s quicker if I just do it myself."

"They’re too busy, I don’t want to overload them."

"They’re not quite ready yet."

But what if delegation isn't actually a logistical issue, but a neurological one?

🔹 Fear Mode – Your brain sees letting go as risky. It triggers the amygdala (your survival brain), making handing something over feel dangerous - even when it isn’t.
🔹 The Dopamine Trap – Checking off tasks gives you that dopamine hit, so it feels more productive to just do it yourself. But real leadership is about long-term impact, not short-term task completion.
🔹 The Approval Loop – We worry about perception: “If I delegate too much, will I seem like I’m not pulling my weight?”

Here’s the re-frame:

✅ Delegation isn’t about getting work off your plate - it’s about growing your team.
✅ True leadership isn’t about what you accomplish - it’s about what you empower others to do.
✅ The best leaders make themselves less essential, not more.

So, here’s your challenge: instead of asking “Who can take this task?”, try asking:

👉 Who needs this opportunity?

👉 Who could grow from this?

👉 How can I coach, not control?

Feels different, right? I’d love to hear what you think.

Wishing you a great week,
