AI Isn't The Problem - We Are

Hey there,

I hope you've had a wonderful week.

I’ve been thinking a lot about AI lately. Not just what it can do, but really, what it asks of us.

I went to see Marianne Williamson speak, and it's what prompted the reflection.

She said something that landed hard: 'It’s not the technology that’s the issue. It’s the consciousness of the people who use it.'

And that felt kinda confronting, as well as fuelling opportunity. Because if we’re the problem, then, I guess, we’re also the solution.

Right now, most people are obsessed with what AI can do. However, the more important question is, who do we need to become to use it well?

Not just efficiently or quickly, but genuinely wisely and in the most creative and innovative way. Because if we don’t do the inner work, we’ll just use AI to recreate the same broken systems - only faster!

So, what might the human skills be that we need to develop?

Here’s what I believe we need to build (or unlearn) to truly thrive with AI:

- Curiosity: Asking better questions, staying open
- Discernment: Knowing what’s true, useful, and ethical
- Emotional Intelligence: Leading and relating with heart
- Adaptability: Letting go of fixed plans and rigid roles
- Critical Thinking: Challenging assumptions and spotting bias
- Creativity: Doing what only a human can
- Vision: Setting a direction that matters
- Integrity: Choosing values over convenience
- Collaboration: Co-creating with others (and machines)
- Unlearning: Releasing perfectionism, control, and old ways of working

But why build these skills? What’s the benefit?

Because when we combine human depth with AI power, this is what becomes possible:

- We design a workaround around meaning, not just output. AI can handle the noise. We focus on what matters.

- We scale creativity, not burnout. AI lets us go faster. Human maturity makes sure we’re going in the right direction.

- We make braver, better decisions. AI offers options. We bring wisdom, values, and context.

- We build more connected, emotionally intelligent teams. Trust, belonging, and empathy will become our sharpest edge.

- We live more intentional lives. AI gives us time back. We decide what to do with it - to rest, to lead, to connect, to create.

So, in summary, AI isn’t the revolution. We are - but it's up to us to evolve and truly choose to be.
